The Care Home Awards judges ‘highly commended’ Aaron for his training initiative. The ‘In My Shoes’ kit, which Aaron compiled himself for just £60, is designed to help staff develop empathy with residents with dementia. Tailored to recreate residents’ real experiences, it gives staff a taste of how it feels for them by using obscured glasses, overly large gloves and headphones that simulate impairments to the senses.

Cornerstone were also ‘highly commended’ in the Specialist Care category as it is the only operator in the south east of England offering nursing care for people with challenging behaviours as a result of neurological or mental health needs.
