Cornerstone Healthcare starts work on £10m specialist nursing home

Award-winning specialist care provider Cornerstone Healthcare has broken ground at its latest development, Cale View, in Wincanton.

The 74-bed home will provide care for adults of all ages, with challenging behaviours associated with complex neurological and mental health conditions.

Care sector design specialists Northstar will project manage the build of the state-of-the-art nursing home on behalf of the Cornerstone Healthcare Group, which was named ‘Complex Care Provider of the Year’ in the HealthInvestor Awards 2020. It is being built by Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group.

Cale View is Cornerstone Healthcare’s first home to be built from scratch. Cornerstone’s CEO, Johann van Zyl, said: “This is an important day for us and another step closer to our goal of providing 500 specialist care beds. We are delighted to be supported by some of the best companies in the healthcare sector. Midas and Northstar are experts in their field, and we know that they will provide us with the best environment for the complex needs of our residents.”

Steve Hart, Director at Midas Construction, added: “We are delighted to be working with Cornerstone Healthcare on their first new build and bringing to the project our extensive experience in delivering high quality care facilities. We’ll be working with local suppliers and contractors to maximise the positive impact of the build, and we look forward to forging relationships with the local community and businesses.”

The £10million project is partly funded by Virgin Money and Cornerstone’s equity investors, Ignite Growth. Richard Hornsey, of Virgin Money, commented: “Having developed a close relationship with the management team at Cornerstone over the last few years, the Virgin Money Health and Social Care team are delighted to assist them with this new development. The provision of specialist nursing beds is in short supply and the completion of this new home will provide an additional 74 beds providing high levels of complex care. We look forward to working closely with Cornerstone on their future strategic growth.”

Forbes Stuart, from Ignite, said: “We are delighted to support the Cornerstone team with further financing to complete the development of a much-needed specialist care service in Wincanton. The team have worked tirelessly through the pandemic to provide outstanding care to our existing residents and this new service will enable the group to extend further its service offering to a new area of the country.”

Cale View is the fourth home in the group’s portfolio along with South Africa Lodge and Kitnocks House in Hampshire and Marula Lodge in Surrey.
