Cornerstone Healthcare secures funding for green, eco home in Bristol

Two time ‘Complex Care Provider of the Year’ winner, Cornerstone Healthcare has teamed up with Virgin Money to bring its specialist care model to the South West of England.

Virgin Money have agreed funding on the multi-million-pound project which will see the building of an 80 bed, ‘green’ eco home in Bristol. The ‘green’ building has been designed to be thermally efficient, meaning it will retain heat in the winter and stay cool in summer for longer. The build will have solar panels on the roof to provide electricity and use environmentally friendly air source heat pumps to heat or cool the building.”

The home, which will bring 140 jobs to the local area, will also have a beautiful living roof. This roof top garden is not only a wonderful feature for residents but will also benefit the local wildlife and, alongside a sustainable drainage system which will manage rainwater attenuation.

Graham Harper, Senior Director of Health & Social Care at Virgin Money said: “Having developed a close relationship with the management team at Cornerstone over the last few years, the Virgin Money Health and Social Care team are delighted to be able to assist them with their second new build development. The provision of specialist nursing beds is in short supply and the completion of this new home in Bristol will provide an additional 80 much needed complex care beds for the region”.

Cornerstone CEO, Johann van Zyl, commented: “To have the backing of Virgin Money on what is an exciting and innovative project paves the way for future of care home development. Both Cornerstone and Virgin Money are committed to reducing their carbon-footprint making this the perfect collaboration and hopefully the first of many”.

Work on the site has started, with the home due to open in the winter of 2023.
