Industry praise for local nursing home boss

A local nursing home boss has been recognised in a leading industry magazine as one of the 50 most influential people in the UK’s health and social care sector.

Johann van Zyl, CEO of Cornerstone Healthcare Group, was bestowed with this honour, when influential HealthInvestors magazine included him in their Power 50 for 2022. For over a decade the HealthInvestor Power 50 acknowledge the most effective, inspiring and influential leaders in the health and social care market.

Waterlooville based Cornerstone Healthcare was founded in 2018 by Van Zyl and Dara Ní Ghadhra and owns specialist nursing homes in Hampshire, Surrey and developing two more in the Southwest of England. The company was named the UK’s Complex Care Provider of the Year in 2020 and 2021 and cares for individuals with complex behaviours due to a progressive neurological and mental health diagnosis.

Van Zyl, a campaigner for health care businesses developing robust Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) policies, commented: “I am greatly honoured by my inclusion in the Power50 and appreciate my peers taking note of our company’s aim to living the ‘Case for Nett Zero’, designing and developing new homes to the highest standards providing the lowest CO2 emissions possible. We are already synonymous with the highest level of complex care and being an employer of choice. We need to all embracing sustainable development of new care homes and get Government to support such initiatives”.
