Cornerstone Healthcare reward staff with inflation beating pay rises

Two times ‘Complex Care Provider of the Year’ Cornerstone Healthcare has again rewarded its staff with a well-deserved, inflation beating, pay rise for the fourth consecutive year.

Cornerstone’s latest increase will see Healthcare Assistants earn a minimum of £11.90 per hour with Nurse’s hourly rate now starting from £23.25. The nurse increase is in addition to the care providers ‘Golden Career’ bonus scheme which sees their nurses able to earn an annual, uncapped performance bonus.

The company, which cares for people with challenging behaviours associated with complex neurological and mental health needs, employs over 350 people across its three services – South Africa Lodge and Kitnocks House in Hampshire and Marula Lodge in Surrey.

Cornerstone’s CEO, Johann van Zyl said “Now more than ever we are fully aware that every penny counts as the cost-of-living difficulties show no sign of easing. At Cornerstone we’ve introduced a number of initiatives to help our staff. These include reducing the cost of in-house staff meals to 50p, gifting all staff with a £100 shopping voucher in September and we trust that our newly announced pay rates will continue to help staff throughout 2023.”

Since 2018 Cornerstone Healthcare Group have increased the salaries of their frontline, keyworkers by 40% by way of regular pay reviews meaning that the company are continually the highest payers in their areas.

Johann van Zyl finished by saying, “The staffing crisis in healthcare continues to deepen as we see our NHS colleagues have to take unprecedented strike action to receive a fair pay reward. Anyone who works in healthcare knows that it is a hugely fulfilling career however, we must now make it a financially rewarding one to encourage new people to the sector. This is something that we are passionate to do at Cornerstone.”
Cornerstone’s forth service ‘Cale View’ in Wincanton, Somerset is due to open at the end of the 2023 with a fifth, The Burren, to open in Bristol in 2024.
